Homelands Statement
The Cascade County Historical Society acknowledges that we are in the homelands of the Northern Plains Tribal Nations and offer our respect for their history, culture and wisdom.
Our Mission
The Cascade County Historical Society preserves and shares the history of North Central Montana through The History Museum, research archives and public programming.
Our Vision
The vision of Cascade County Historical Society is to inspire a sense of history and place for our region.
Museum
The History Museum maintains engaging long term and short term exhibitions that interpret the rich cultural heritage of Cascade County and the surrounding area.
Collection
The History Museum collects artifacts that illustrate the history of Cascade County and the surrounding Central Montana area. Artifacts in the collection are safely stored away from light exposure, dust, and handling for use in future exhibitions. Digital cataloging projects are ongoing and will allow collections that are not on display to be available to the public online.
Research Center
The History Museum Archives maintains 4,500 square feet of closed stack resources accessible to the public through the Owen & Gayle Robinson Research Center. Historic photographs, blueprints, maps, bound newspapers, yearbooks, and many more original documents are available to the public.
Programming
The History Museum offers free admission programming on the Second Saturday of each month. Our annual Jazz Night event honors the historic Ozark Club in addition to other special events.
Our Organization’s History
In 1976 a small group of visionaries formed the Cascade County Historical Society. The organization was housed at one time in four separate locations until uniting into one building.
Our Historic Home
In 1929 the International Harvester company built a solid brick 47,625 square foot building on 2nd Street South in Great Falls, Montana, known as Machinery Row.
